Nature is the true star here in Ehrwald and throughout the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. From (almost) anywhere, you can enjoy views of the spectacular mountain scenery — peak after peak, with the impressive Wetterstein range and the Zugspitze summit, as well as the striking Sonnenspitze, standing as unmistakable landmarks.

Below the towering mountain slopes, a variety of landscapes unfold: expansive green alpine meadows, dense larch, beech and mixed forests. High-altitude mountain lakes feed streams that plunge down into the valley, sometimes over metre-high waterfalls, while tiny, barely noticeable springs grow into rushing waters.

Mountain Biking and Cycling

For those more interested in experiencing the area on wheels, the Zugspitz Arena has just as many trails on offer. Often regarded as a special paradise for cyclists and mountain bikers alike, the area boasts a range of downhill tracks as well as some beautiful scenic routes snaking along the valleys. We’ve even been awarded “Best Mountain Biking Area in Austria” several times!

The hotel has plenty of secure storage if you are keen to bring your bike. However, do not fret if space proves tight and you are not able to bring yours along. Ehrwald has some brilliant options for mountain bike and E-bike rental - just ask Otto or Maria.

Z-Ticket

If you’re planning an active break and wanting to get the most of the area, the Z-Ticket Active Card is a good all-round option. With this card, you can use all the cable cars in the Zugspitz Arena, travel freely using public transport, access Ehrwald’s Panorama Outdoor swimming pool, jump on a lake cruise on the Heiterwang- and Plansee, and much more.

Day Trips and Other Activities

For those kids, big and small, or those after a little break from hiking, The Zugspitz Arena is well situated for a variety of different activities. Minigolf, tobogganing, canyoning, tennis, archery, mountain carting, (indoor) bouldering, zip-lining, and swimming are all available locally. A short drive away you can also find the picturesque towns of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, visit the Partnachklamm, test your fear of heights on the Reutte Suspension Bridge, amongst much more. Needless to say, with the scenery around us, even just jumping in the car for a drive can be a wonderful way to experience the area!
